Image description: Statue of Sir Walter Raleigh (1552 - 1618), Greenwich.

Sculpture (1959) is by William McMillan.

Raleigh was an adventurer, navigator, author and courtier to Elizabeth I. This statue was recently moved from Whitehall (where it was dwarfed by its surroundings) to this more prominent and fitting position at Greenwich.
