Image description: The Old Royal Observatory, Greenwich.

Greenwich was chosen as the prime meridian (longitude: 0 degrees), in 1884.

The red ball on the tower drops daily from the top of the mast at 13.00 'Greenwich Time' - historically, allowing ships on the Thames to set their chronometers.
