Image description: The City Pride pub with woman holding bag and newspaper passing in front, Clerkenwell, London.
In the 12c Clerkenwell was a hamlet servicing local monasteries. (The name derives from 'Clerks' Well'; clerks being monks). Since the early 19c it has been a centre of political and social radicalism. Today it is also a trendy residential, design and digital business district.
