This statue, overlooking Giltspur Street at Cock Lane, commemorates the stopping of the Great Fire, which ravaged over 450 acres of city and destroyed 13,200 houses and 87 churches. The Fire, which began at Pudding Lane, has been variously attributed to the sin of gluttony, bakery carelessness and Papists.
