These photographs form part of the London Image Collection and cover the British Airways London Eye more simply and affectionately known as the London Eye. The 135 metre high observation wheel (not really a ferris wheel) offers spectacular views over the RiverThames which passes directly below, Westminster and the Parliament Buildings on the opposite bank and, on a clear day, all of London beyond. The London Eye's transparent capsules are engineered to slowly rotate with the wheel and each 360 degree 'flight' lasts about 30 minutes. The London Eye is a bold monument which has quickly captured the hearts of most Londoners and is very popular with London tourists. The London Eye was conceived and designed by Marks Barfield Architects, was opened in 2000, and is suspended over the Thames from Jubilee Gardens, which is positioned between County Hall and Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank.
For London Eye beside Big Ben images, see Westminster Pages.
The London Eye images contained on these pages cover the seasons of spring, summer and winter and iinclude: full view over the River Thames; various sections of the wheel and capsules (to fit a variety of design and page layouts); the Eye viewed from Waterloo Station with train and passengers/pedestrians in foreground; single capsule with passengers; the Eye with Big Ben and Houses of Parliament behind; the London Eye viewed through South Bank sculpture (suggestive, to me, of cycling on a grand scale); and a Jump Zone participant before the Eye.
