These photographs form part of the London Image Collection and cover aspects of London's parks and green spaces, and some of its royal palaces. At present the collection focuses on Buckingham Palace and the Queen Victoria Memorial before its main gates, St James's Park, Green Park and boating on Hyde Park's Serpentine.
Here you will find the east front of Buckingham Palace (most familiar to tourists) depicted as a general view, with a detail of the Royal Standard flying above its golden tipped ironwork gates, and with one of the Queen's Guard striding from his guard box. There are general views of Green Park's tree-lined walks and the splendidly ornamental Canada Gate (with taxis and cyclist blurring past), details of autumn leaves fallen on the bronze maple leaves and marble of the Canada Memorial, and picturesque scenes of St James's Park and lake with fountain and long view east towards Horse Guards and the Foreign Office encircled by the London Eye. Queen Victoria and various statuary appear on her Memorial (by Sir Thomas Brock). Two images taken on Birdcage Walk, alongside St James's Park, appear: a caterpillar line of marching troops - with their bayonets and white gloves gleaming - marching on Remembrance Sunday; and a lone London bobby overseeing the route. There is also a general view of the mature trees of Hyde Park dominating people on the footpath and cycleway beneath, and people rowing and peddling pleasure boats on the Serpentine.
