These photographs form part of the London Image Collection and cover London's South Bank, which runs along the south bank of the River Thames from Westminster Bridge to Blackfriars Bridge, taking in the old County Hall, modern Hungerford Bridge, Royal Festival Hall, Royal National Theatre and the OXO Tower and its complex of boutiques. I also take 'South Bank' to include the Thames itself along this stretch and its diverse river traffic, and also the environs of Waterloo Station.
For other South Bank images, see the London Eye pages.
You will find here pictures of: Jump Zone participants (before County Hall and the London Eye); the new Hungerford Bridge (linking the South Bank with Embankment and Charing Cross) with postmodern Embankment Place behind; the bust of Nelson Mandela beside Royal Festival Hall; Royal Festival Hall reflected in a motorcyclist's helmet; old warehouse banners and window shoppers in motion at the OXO Tower complex; a moving train before the London Eye at Waterloo Station; and a mature punk before a South Bank riverboats pier. There are also some overview images of the South Bank viewed across Blackfriars Bridge - with commuter trains and pedestrians on bridges (and a boat on the river below) in the foreground, the cluster of buildings and office towers in the middle distance, and the ubiquitous London Eye appearing between buildings to the rear.
The River Thames is a working river and also represented here are photographs of: a large tug boat; a tug hauling two barges of yellow sea containers; an enormous construction barge (or floating platform); the old bridge piers of former London, Chatham and Dover Railway line rising from the Thames with London police boat between; and a tourist ferry before Hungerford Bridge.
