These photographs form part of the River Thames Image Collection and cover the non-navigable headwaters of the River Thames (also know as the River Isis) from its source in a Gloucestershire pasture at Thames Head - four miles southwest of Cirencester - via Cricklade in Wiltshire to the Round House just above Lechlade on Thames.
Pictures include: the carved stone at Thames Head marking the source of the Thames; village cottages and old churches around Somerford Keynes and Ashton Keynes; and Cricklade high street and the immaculately trim St Sampson's Church. The river below Cricklade is remote and tranquil, and you wll find images taken at dusk and dawn of the rural Thames bordered by tall winter grasses.
The Red Lion at Castle Eaton claims to be the first pub on the Thames; find also a couple of rural pub signs. Also featured are picturesque views of Highworth and the rolling countryside around Lus Hill, village cottages and churches, winding roads (with a blurred coach in motion) and some occasional bicycle with panniers (cycle touring by mountain bike) shots.
